Patrolman Francis Mace was struck and killed by an automobile while on mounted patrol.

Patrolman Mace was on mounted patrol when the horse, Bulb, was struck by a truck at the corner of Kings Highway and Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn. Patrolman Mace was thrown from the horse onto the hood of an automobile. He suffered a fractured skull and broken neck and died instantly.

Patrolman Mace had served with the New York City Police Department for seven years and was assigned to the 73rd Precinct, the present-day 63rd Precinct. He was survived by his wife.

Three years earlier, Patrolman Christopher Tierney was killed while riding the same horse, Bulb.
