Private Tim Kelleher was stabbed while off duty after responding to a woman's calls for help in Comru Township. While en route to the Reading barracks, he saw two men beating a young woman and went to her rescue. One man stabbed Private Kelleher in the side, killing him. Both suspects were apprehended. One was executed and the other was sentenced to 12 years of hard labor.

Private Kelleher was a United States Army Cavalry veteran in the Philippine War and served with the Pennsylvania State Police for less than two years. He was assigned to Troop C, Reading, present-day Troop L, Reading.

Private Kelleher was born in Ireland and had served with the Boers in their War against the English before enlisting in the United States Army and was survived by his father and two brothers. He is buried at Cavalry Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
