Marshal Harvey Hake was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man on an assault and battery charge at 11:00 pm.
The subject's wife had filed an assault and battery complaint. Marshal Hake went to a local pool hall on High Street to arrest the man. When he knocked on the door, the subject fired through the door striking Marshal Hake in the head.
Responding officers entered the home and found the subject hiding under the bed, using an infant as a shield. He was convicted of Marshal Hake's murder and executed by electrocution on June 22, 1917.
Marshal Hake had served with the Covington Police Department for 16 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
