Deputy Sheriff Caige Grimes was shot and killed during a stakeout of a local bank in Round Rock, Texas.
He and other officers from his agency and the Texas Rangers received a tip that the Bass Gang would rob the bank. The officers observed four members of the gang enter a store next door to the bank. Deputy Grimes approached one of the gang members and asked if he was armed. The suspect immediately shot him. Two Texas Rangers who were nearby opened fire on the gang, killing one and mortally wounding the shooter. The other two escaped.
Deputy Grimes was a former Texas Ranger. He was survived by his wife.
He is buried in the northeast corner of the Round Rock Cemetery, Round Rock, Texas.
