Game Warden Ronnie Germany was shot and killed while conducting an investigation in the Attoyac River area of San Augustine County.
He and his partner stopped by a house in a remote area four miles east of Highway 7 in Grigsby as part of an investigation into illegal hunting in the area. The owner of the house attacked them and opened fire with a .22 caliber rifle, wounding Warden Germany in the shoulder.
Warden Germany sent his partner for assistance as he remained at the scene to watch the house. When the subject attempted to leave the home on a tractor, Warden Germany began to follow him but was shot again and killed.
The subject was convicted of murder and sentenced to five years in prison.
Warden Germany was survived by his wife, mother, nephew, and siblings. His nephew, Constable Dale Geddie of the Smith County Constable's Office - Precinct 4, was shot and killed in the line of duty on Wednesday, June 7th, 2006. Warden Germany is buried at Cathederal in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler, Texas.
