Detective Frank Fraser was shot and killed while pursuing an escaped convict from Stillwater Penitentiary.

Detective Fraser followed the man onto a streetcar at the intersection of 4th Street and Market Street. As he grabbed him from the behind the man produced a revolver, turned, and shot him in the groin. As Detective Fraser struggled with the man he was shot again in the hand. Another officer who heard the shots rushed to the scene and the two were able to subdue the suspect. Detective Fraser succumbed to his wounds two days later.

The suspect was convicted of murder, sentenced to life, and returned to Stillwater Penitentiary. He was later transferred to Minnesota State Mental Hospital and died there on August 10th, 1930.

Detective Fraser had served with the St. Paul Police Department for 20 years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, and mother.
