Patrolwoman Debra Corr was shot and killed with her own weapon after making a stop for a traffic violation at East Colfax Avenue and Moline Street.

As she attempted to arrest the suspect he broke free, gained control of her service weapon, and fatally shot her. A passing police Explorer stopped to offer assistance and was shot in the back and wounded. The suspect was arrested at his home as he attempted to saw the handcuffs off of his wrist and later committed suicide in jail while awaiting trial.

In January 2022 the suspect was identified through DNA evidence as a serial killer who had murdered four women in Denver between 1980 and 1981.

Patrolwoman Corr had served with the Aurora Police Department for one year.
