Federal Prohibition Agent Charles Cooley was killed in an automobile accident while driving to Malvern, Arkansas, to appear as a witness in a state liquor case.

As he crested a hill he encountered an oncoming vehicle in his lane. He took evasive action to avoid a collision, but his vehicle overturned in a ditch, killing him instantly.
