Marshal Frank Colclough was shot and killed during the robbery of a saloon.
He was inside the saloon discussing the robbery of another nearby saloon with the owner when two masked men entered and announced a robbery. Marshal Colclough drew his weapon and exchanged shots with the two suspects. Despite being mortally wounded he was able to shoot and kill one of the suspects. The other suspect was arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to life.
Marshal Colclough had served with the Midvale Police Department for only seven months. He was survived by his wife and three daughters. One of his daughters was engaged to Midvale Officer William Nelson, who was shot and killed in the line of duty four months later.
