Trooper Bill Davidson succumbed to gunshot wounds received the previous day after stopping a stolen car in Edna, Texas.

The suspect shot Trooper Davidson in the neck with a 9 mm handgun when he approached the car. The suspect fled the scene of the shooting but was arrested within a couple of hours with the murder weapon in his possession. The suspect confessed to killing the trooper and repeated his confession to a grand jury.

During his trial, the suspect claimed he shot Trooper Davidson because the rap music he was listening to, forced him to do so. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. He was executed on October 6, 2005.

Trooper Davidson had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for over 20 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
