Special Agent Ronquest was shot and killed while on duty in Missouri when two men approached him and attempted to rob him near the Historic Suites of America hotel. He was shot and killed with his agency-issued revolver when he attempted to take action.

Both suspects were apprehended. The shooter was sentenced to 30 years in prison and the accomplice was sentenced to 15 years.

Agent Ronquest, a 21-year FBI veteran, worked out of the Organized Crime Section of the agency’s Criminal Investigative Division. Officials said he was gathering documents for an ongoing federal investigation of links between organized crime and the Teamsters union. The robbery attempt was unrelated.

He was survived by his wife, daughter, and son.
