Constable William Campbell was shot and killed by the notorious outlaw gang led by Bonnie and Clyde. The Chief of Police was also shot and wounded in the incident.
Constable Campbell was survived by his daughter and is buried in Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery, Miami, Ottawa County, Oklahoma.
