Deputy Mitchell Robinson succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier when he fell from the running board of a vehicle.
He was patrolling along with members of the West Virginia State Police when they attempted to stop a vehicle. As the vehicle he was riding started to slow down, he opened the door to get onto the running board but fell off and struck his head. He was transported to a hospital in Welch where he remained until he succumbed to his injuries.
Deputy Robinson had served with the McDowell County Sheriff's Department for only one year. He was survived by his mother and sister.
He was buried at Marion, Virginia.
