Deputy William Humble was shot and killed by a man who held a grudge against the deputy. Deputy Humble had previously searched the man's home and filling station for illegal liquor.
On the afternoon on June 10, 1930, the man's wife flagged Deputy Humble down and told him the man wanted to see him. When Deputy Humble entered the man's filling station he was fatally shot. The man and his wife were charged with murder.
The suspect was convicted of first degree manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years. In August of 1931 he was paroled but was sent back to prison three years later to finish his sentence. He violated his parole when he was caught with illegal liquor.
Deputy Humble was survived by his wife and son.
