Town Marshal J.M. Bishop was stabbed to death as he entered a home near Long Street to investigate a domestic disturbance involving a man and his wife.

Upon arrival the man invited Marshal Bishop into his home but then attacked him with a long Mexican dagger as soon as he entered. The suspect stabbed Marshal Bishop multiple times and then ran out the front door. Marshal Bishop managed to shoot the suspect six times as he fled, killing him instantly.

Girard, Alabama, no longer exist. It was annexed by its neighbor Phenix City, Alabama, in 1923.
