Constable Charles Holloway was shot and killed as he and a deputy constable attempted to arrest two men they suspected of robbing a bank in Odell, Texas, the previous week.

They caught the suspects as they attempted to cross the Red River into neighboring Oklahoma. As the deputy constable searched one of the brothers, the other man suddenly produced a handgun and opened fire, striking both officers. Constable Holloway was killed as the result of his wound.

Both men fled into Oklahoma but were eventually arrested and returned to Texas. One of the men was acquitted and the other was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 2 years in prison. All charges were later dropped against both men.

Constable Holloway was survived by his wife and child.
