Officer Trey Hutchison was shot and killed by ambush when he responded to a 911 hang-up call from a woman who said her husband had pulled a gun on her.

When Officer Hutchinson arrived at the block of 3200 Jana Place in Bossier City around 3:00 pm, the subject opened the door and shot Officer Hutchinson twice in the back.

A backup officer arrived on the scene moments later and discovered Officer Hutchison on the ground. The officer called for assistance and immediately began CPR. He was airlifted to LSU Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds an hour later. The fatal rounds struck him in areas his vest did not protect.

A state police robot later located the suspect's body inside the house. The suspect had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The subject had a history of violence towards police officers. In 2005, Louisiana signed the "Trey Hutchinson Act" that requires any offender who commits violent crimes against peace officers to register with the Louisiana Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information.

Officer Hutchison had served with the Bossier City Police Department for just under one year and previously served with the Lufkin Police Department, Texas, for 5.5 years. Officer Hutchison is survived by his wife, parents, brother, and grandparents.

Each October, the Caddo/Bossier Domestic Violence Task Force hosts a Domestic Violence Awards Banquet in Officer Trey Hutchinson's honor.
