City Marshal R.H. Pratt was shot and killed while on patrol.
His body was found on a street with two bullet wounds. One of the wounds was inflicted by a .38 caliber handgun, and the second was from a .44 caliber handgun. It is suspected that he was murdered by local bootleggers who had threatened his life prior to the shooting.
Two suspects were arrested three weeks later but were released due to a lack of evidence.
