Officer Philip Stabile succumbed to injuries sustained when a mentally ill man attacked him. During the attack he was severely beaten and kicked, causing severe lung and heart damage.
The suspect was never prosecuted due his mental state.
Officer Stabile was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Long Beach Community College District Police Department for over 20 years. He had previously served with the New York City Police Department. He was survived by his daughter and sister.
