While performing a sudden evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with the fleeing vehicle, Sergeant Scott lost control of his patrol car and struck another vehicle.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene but wrecked several miles away and fled on foot. Two suspects were taken into custody the next day. The driver was convicted of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving without insurance, and two counts of hit and run.
