Trooper Raymond Armstead died after being involved in an accident on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Powder Mill Road in Prince George's County.
Trooper Armstead's attention was diverted to the side of the road by people who were flagging him down for another accident. Due to the distraction, he did not see traffic stopped in front of him and struck the rear of another vehicle. Trooper Armstead was trapped inside of his patrol car before being freed by members of the Prince George's County Fire Department. He was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Trooper Armstead is survived by his wife and two children.
