Marshal Warring was shot and killed after responding to a domestic disturbance in which a man had threatened to shoot his wife for pouring out his whiskey. Marshal Warring and the man were friends and the Marshal did not feel threatened by the man even though the wife had warned him he was armed.
As Marshal Warring attempted to talk to the man the suspect fired his shotgun through the door, fatally wounding Marshal Warring. The suspect was convicted of Marshal Warring's murder and hanged.
Marshal Warring had served with the agency for 6 years. He was survived by his wife and daughter.
