Assistant Chief Tuck was shot and killed after responding to the scene of the murders of Deputy Robert Wooten and Deputy Curtis Youngblood, both of the Marion County Sheriff's Office. The two deputies had been shot and killed as they approached the home of a mentally ill man.
As officers responding to the initial shooting surrounded the home, the suspect opened fire a second time and fatally wounding Assistant Chief Tuck. The man was taken into custody and later died while in a state mental hospital.
Assistant Chief Tuck was survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters.
