Detective George Taylor was shot and killed after stopping a vehicle near the intersection of North Davis Avenue and Kensington Avenue.
The suspect was a convicted murderer on parole at the time. He was convicted of capital murder for killing Detective Taylor and sentenced to death. He committed suicide in prison in 1988.
Detective Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Richmond Police Department for 13 years. He was survived by his wife and two teenage daughters. He was killed the day before his 40th birthday.
