Officer Taylor was shot and killed after conducting a vehicle stop one block off of Hackelburg's main street. The vehicle was stopped behind the home of one of the suspects. Both suspects were later arrested and shooter, 35, was sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled on August 27, 1977. On March 11, 1984, he was shot and killed by two men who broke into his home in Hartselle.
