Patrolman William Stringfellow was shot and killed during an armed robbery inside Union Station.
Patrolman Stringfellow was assigned to escort a Union Station restaurant cashier to the bank. While the two walked up the ramp to the Clinton Street exit they were approached by an armed subject who opened fire without warning. Patrolman Stringfellow was shot twice and fell before being able to draw his own weapon.
The subject fled the scene in a car with two other men. Three suspects were apprehended but were later released due to a lack of evidence.
Patrolman Stringfellow had served with the Chicago Police Department for 20 years. He was survived by his wife and son.
