Rush Stehlin

Officer Rush Stehlin was shot and killed while investigating two men who had just robbed a man and wife.

Officer Stehlin was talking to the couple at the intersection of Third Street and Ferry Street when they saw the two men walk by. Officer Stehlin called out to them to stop from across the street. One of the men opened fire, mortally wounding Officer Stehlin.

The 22-year-old suspect, who was sentenced to death, later had his sentence commuted to life. He was paroled in 1951.

Officer Stehlin served with the Easton Police Department for 12 years and was survived by his wife and two children.
