Officer Richard Scholz was killed in an automobile crash at the corner of Divisadero Street and Bush Street.
Officer Scholz was responding to a call of a robbery shooting when his patrol car collided with another automobile at the intersection. Two other officers received minor injuries, and four civilians were injured. The call turned out to be an accidental firearm discharge.
Officer Scholz was a United States Army Air Forces World War II decorated pilot and had served with the San Francisco Police Department for 1 1/2 years. He was survived by his mother, father, sister, and niece.
