Patrolman Samuel Rosenfeld was shot and killed by a suspect who had just committed an armed robbery. Patrolman Rosenfeld entered the Republican Club in the 100 block of Leonard Street, in Brooklyn, and observed two men wearing masks and armed with handguns.

One of the suspect fled to the rear of the location, but was apprehended, the second suspect opened fire on Patrolman Rosenfeld, striking him once. Patrolman Rosenfeld was removed to the hospital, where he died a few hours later.

The suspect was apprehended in Ohio and returned to New York City after confessing to the murder. He was executed on December 19th, 1918.

Patrolman Rosenfeld was assigned to the 163rd Precinct, which late became the now-closed 87th Precinct. The area is patrolled by the 90th Precinct.
