Police Officer Louis Robers was shot and killed by a saloon owner who had a grudge against the officer.

Officer Robers had instructed the man to keep the lights burning on his car if it was parked in front of the saloon at Cooper Avenue (modern-day Marconia Avenue) and Daggett Avenue. As Officer Robers approached the doors of the saloon the man opened fire, striking him in the chest twice.

On May 13, 1918, charges against the suspect were dropped.

Officer Robers had been with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for 12 years. He was survived by his wife.
