Patrolman Anthony Rahe succumbed to head and leg injuries sustained the previous day while responding to a fire alarm call. As he was responding to the fire alarm turned in from the Fort Pitt Hotel a vehicle pulled out in front of his motorcycle from a parking lot at 10th Street and Fort Duquesne Way.

He was taken to Mercy Hospital where he succumbed to his injury while being operated on to set his leg fracture. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and brought in front of a coroner's jury.

Patrolman Rahe was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWI and had served with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for more than two years. He was survived by his wife, mother, and four children.
