Officer Nichols was killed by a hit-and-run driver while on patrol in the business district during the early morning hours. He was struck at the intersection of Tryon Street and 3rd Street.

Officer Nichols had been with the agency for 10 years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 73rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
