Trooper Roy Mynatt was killed in an automobile accident on US 27, at Highway 61, near Rockwood, Tennessee, during a vehicle pursuit. He was speaking with a person at a service station when he observed a car drive by that the Highway Patrol was looking for. As he was attempting to stop the vehicle his car went out of control and struck an oncoming vehicle. The impact caused Trooper Mynatt's patrol car to explode.

Trooper Mynatt was a WWII veteran and had served with the agency for 15 years. He was survived by his wife and five children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 44th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect.and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. I thank them for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.
