Deputy Myles was shot and killed after warning patrons of a dance hall to quiet down. As he and his companion left they were fired upon and struck by a shotgun blast. Deputy Myles was killed at the scene and his companion died the following day.

Two men were arrested and taken to the Greenbrier County Jail. Several days later a mob of 60 citizens removed them from the jail and lynched them on a public street.

Deputy Myles was survived by his wife.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 80th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
