Agent Murray was killed in an automobile accident while returning to Baudette, Minnesota, at the end of his shift patrolling the Canadian border. He swerved to avoid striking a farmer driving a team of horses and his vehicle overturned. He was taken to his home where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 0100 hours.

Agent Murray had only been with the agency for 21 days and was survived by his wife and three children.
