Officer Murphy was shot and killed by a sniper with a high-powered rifle as she did paperwork in her patrol car. The suspect was apprehended but later hanged himself in his cell.

Officer Murphy was survived by her husband who was also a police officer and her 15 month old daughter.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 26th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. You were a beautiful young woman with a radiant smile and I am sure that is how you greeted the world. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace today. Morgan, thanks for sharing a daughter's devotion.
