Patrolman Moroso was shot and killed after he refused to take bribes from the local speakeasy owners in the 23rd Precinct. The club owners hired a local criminal to kill Patrolman Moroso.

The suspect snuck up behind him while he was on patrol and shot him in the back. The case was not solved until shortly before WWII when a detective decided to start investigating it again. The suspect was located in prison on a robbery conviction. He was convicted of Patrolman Moroso's murder and executed on January 21, 1943.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 79th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I am glad that your department still pursued justice for you despite the number of years that had passed since your murder.

Rest In Peace
