Officer Mork was found shot to death in a cemetery while working the midnight shift. He had not radioed in his location and it is unknown why he was there and out of his patrol car.

The chief of the agency was later arrested and charged with Officer Mork's murder, but was acquitted.

Officer Mork also served as the village's fire chief. He was survived by his wife, 6-year-old daughter, and 2-year-old son.
