Sergeant Joseph Morabito found dead, suffering from two gunshot wounds, in his car on the side of the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. His killer then stole both of his revolvers and his wallet before fleeing.

One of Sergeant Morabito's informants was arrested in December 1971 and was believed to have knowledge of the location of his revolvers.

Sergeant Morabito had served with the NYPD for seven years and was assigned to the Narcotics Bureau. He was survived by his parents and twin brother. His brother worked for the New York City Department of Correction.
