Federal Prohibition Agent Lawrence Mommer was killed in an automobile accident during a vehicle pursuit of suspected bootleggers in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at about 12:45 am.

He and other agents were pursuing a vehicle on Maysville Road, about 12 miles north of Fort Wayne. The vehicles were driving side by side at about 10 mph when Agent Mommer attempted to step from the running board of his vehicle onto the other vehicle's running board. As he did so he slipped and fell underneath the vehicle's wheels.
