Lester John Miller

Deputy Sheriff Lester Miller was killed in an automobile crash on Route 226 between Altay and Coles Corner.

The county sheriff had ordered him to respond to reports of disorderly subjects. He was en route to his home to change into his uniform when the crash occurred at about 10:55 pm.

Deputy Miller was a U.S. Army Air Forces veteran of WWII and recipient of the Purple Heart, EAME Theater Medal, and Air Medal. He had served with the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office for seven months. He was survived by his wife, two sons, two stepdaughters, parents, grandparents, two brothers, and four sisters.
