Sergeant John Miller was killed when the plane he was riding in crashed near Thorntown in Boone County.

Sergeant Miller was assigned to a National Guard airplane for a Labor Day patrol when it crashed, killing both him and the military pilot onboard.

Sergeant Miller had served with the Indiana State Police for 14 years and was assigned to the Lafayette post.
