Deputy Marshal Harry Miller was shot and killed while attempting to arrest five robbery suspects.

The subjects had just robbed a man in Orillia and continued walking south along the railroad tracks. Deputy Marshal Miller and Kent's night marshal encountered the man near the Kent Stockyards as they walked into town. As the officers gave commands to surrenders the subjects opened fire on them, killing Deputy Miller.

The men were eventually arrested by a posse, convicted, and sentenced to life for Deputy Marshal Miller's murder.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and fourth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
