Harry E. Miller

Deputy Marshal Harry Miller was shot and killed while attempting to arrest four robbery suspects.

The subjects had just robbed a man in Orillia and continued walking south along the railroad tracks. Deputy Marshal Miller and Kent's night marshal encountered the man near the Kent Stockyards as they walked into town. As the officers gave commands to surrender the subjects opened fire on them, killing Deputy Miller.

Three men were eventually arrested by a posse several days later. Two were convicted of murder and sentenced to life. The third suspect was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to five years. It is not known if the fourth suspect was ever caught.
