Guard Harry McVay succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained one week earlier during an escape attempt at the Rhode Island Penitentiary.

One of the prisoners who attempted to escape committed suicide with the same gun used to shoot Guard McVay.

The weapons had been smuggled into the prison's visitor area by accomplices of the inmates.

From what I understand, you were a relation of my grandfather, James H. McVay Jr. My mother told me briefly a few times of you while I was growing up. Beyond that, not much else was mentioned.

I've gone down to the policeman's memorial in Washington, DC to pay respects...I'll do that again and take my son Connor.
