Office John McNerney was shot and killed by a suspect during a search of a store in an area that had seen a rash of burglaries.

Officer McNerney had attempted to return fire but his service weapon misfired twice.

He had served with the agency for 13 years.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
