Detective McGinn was shot to death during a raid on a gambling den on Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia that was being held up by 10 masked gunmen at the same time. Detective McGinn, who was on vacation, had volunteered for the assignment.

Detective McGinn's killer was identified, arrested, and executed in the electric chair on February 22, 1922.

Detective McGinn was a 23-year veteran of the force.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
