Officer McFarland was shot and killed when he and 50 other officers responded to a bank robbery. The suspect had entered the bank and rounded the 15 occupants into a back room, where he began firing hiw two revolvers. A riot call was placed and dozens of officers responded. Officer McFarland was shot through the heart and killed instantly and three other officers were shot and wounded. The suspect, who was believed to have been on drugs at the time, was shot and killed by other officers.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 92nd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
