Dan Lafayette McDuffie

Private Dan McDuffie was shot and killed by a former police officer in Gladewater, Texas

Private McDuffie was at the Gladewater police station when a report came in of a man with a rifle who was threatening to kill the chief of police. Private McDuffie knew the suspect and volunteered to negotiate with him.

When he arrived at the location, near the intersection of North Dean Street and Pacific Avenue, the man shot and killed him. Other officers at the scene returned fire and killed the suspect.

Private McDuffie had served with the Texas Rangers for 30 years.

One of Private McDuffie's brothers, Special Agent James McDuffie died on June 6th, 1923, from injuries sustained in the line of duty while serving with the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad Police Department.
