Patrolmen Donald E. McCormick and Sergeant Edward Crowley were shot and killed while investigating a domestic disturbance.
Patrolman McCormick and Sergeant Crowley went to the home and were met at the door by the wife. As the officers began to look around they found the man standing in a closet in his underwear. Sergeant Crowley ordered him to get dressed.
As he was sitting on the couch getting dressed, the offender pulled out a revolver from under the couch. He ordered the detectives, "Don't move and you won't get hurt". Shots were exchanged between the gunman and Patrolman McCormick.
Patrolman Donald McCormick and Sergeant Edward Crowley were both shot and killed in the exchange.
The suspect was convicted of two counts of first degree murder and executed in the electric chair October 17, 1952.
Patrolman McCormick issurvived by his parents.
