Eddie, you perished on my watch, sir. For that I ask for your forgiveness. I should have taught you better. I tried and we were a still a work in progress. I suspect your "life contract" was just shorter than many of ours.
I no longer carry the guilt of a young rookie dying in the manner you did. I carry the fond memories of your engagement, dedication to truly protect and serve, and your continual support of your squad and us all.
You perished doing what you loved doing. It was evident every day that you had finally found your calling, and at a much younger age than most of us. You did your job well, always to the best of your abilities and what more can anyone ever ask of another person? You always tried to do the right thing and for that we all admired and respected you. I still do.
I hope to see you again on the other side. Until then, Semper Fi.
